James established his practice at Hurstville Private in 1999 with consulting rooms on site at Hurstville Private Hospital. Since then James has delivered over 6000 babies.

James undertook specialist training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where he was awarded the F.J. Browne Medal in 1996 for first place in the membership exam for The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. He was then appointed Senior Registrar at St Mary’s Hospital in London where he worked in the High Risk Obstetric Unit with interests in high blood pressure in pregnancy, gestational diabetes, and thyroid issues in pregnancy.

Special Interests

James has a special interest in high blood pressure in pregnancy, gestational diabetes, thyroid issues in pregnancy and twin pregnancy.

James and his wife Jenny live in the St George area with their three children. All members of the family have keen sporting interests. James enjoys ultra-marathon running and has participated in the Sydney Marathon, London Marathon, Six Foot Track Marathon and completed the Sydney Oxfam Trailwalker 100km event on five occasions. He has walked the Kokoda Trail with family and friends in honour of his late grandfather Ronald Payne who fought in the Middle East and Papua New Guinea. James also enjoys boating and fishing with his family.
