Training in cardiology in 2007 – 2008 at John Hunter Hospital. PhD studies in the University of Adelaide on the topic of obesity and atrial fibrillation. During his PhD studies he undertook simultaneous pre-clinical and clinical research looking at the relationship between weight changes and the structural and electrical substrates promoting atrial fibrillation. His research was awarded the first prize for Ralph Reader Prize of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand in Perth, 2011. In 2012 he studied the effect of various pro-fibrosis markers in the genesis of atrial fibrillation in obesity, and in particular the effect of the endothelin system. For his research, he was a finalist at the Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society’s Young Investigator Award, in Japan.
