A/Prof Szomor has more than 25 years’ experience as an orthopaedic surgeon and specialises in hip and knee surgery, including joint replacement, hip and knee primary and revision arthroplasty, and knee reconstruction and arthroscopic surgery.

A/Prof Szomor is highly competent and comfortable using the most advanced surgical techniques, to achieve optimal outcomes for his patients. This includes the use of computer navigated and robotic assisted joint replacements.

He is one of the first orthopaedic surgeons in Australia to practise the minimally-invasive, tissue-sparing surgical technique for total hip replacement – SuperPATH. This technique usually leads to a quicker recovery and accelerated rehabilitation, whilst minimising pain. For total knee replacements, he uses the most advanced, ceramic-coated knee replacements.

A/Prof Szomor completed his advanced orthopaedic training with the Australian Orthopaedic Association Training Program and was elected to be a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He completed a PhD Degree at the University of New South Wales, performing cutting-edge musculoskeletal research. He also completed a fellowship at Kyoto University, Japan, focusing on arthroplasty and cartilage research, as well as a fellowship in Sydney.

A/Prof Szomor’s strong interest in, and ongoing commitment to, research and education has resulted in over 50 scientific papers being published in international journals and he has presented close to 100 scientific papers at national and international conferences.
