Dr Myriam Girgis is a Gynaecologist and AGES Accredited Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon with over a decade of experience caring for women. She is a VMO at Hurstville Private Hospital.
She is calm, patient, compassionate and culturally sensitive. Dr Girgis takes the time to listen, to offer up-to-date and evidence-based treatment options, and to provide clear communication and advice to patients and their families, in order to empower women to make informed decisions, and to tailor her care to each woman’s individual needs to achieve an optimal clinical outcome.
Dr Girgis provides gynaecological care and minimally invasive surgery (MIS) to the highest standard, holding the highest level of accreditation (RANZCOG/AGES Level 6) in complex pelvic surgery. She consults at her private rooms in Hurstville and Campsie, and is a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and The Canterbury Hospital.
Highly qualified and experienced, Dr Girgis is pleased to offer management of a range of gynaecological conditions with both medical and minimally invasive surgical techniques, including laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery. She has a particular interest in complex laparoscopic pelvic surgery and is equally skilled in open and vaginal surgery. Her areas of expertise include:
- Laparoscopic surgery for severe endometriosis, complex hysterectomy, adenomyosis, fibroids, and removal of ovarian cysts
- Hysteroscopic myomectomy, polyp removal and endometrial ablation
- Incontinence and prolapse surgery

Dr Girgis welcomes new patients and referrals, and is happy to discuss patients, and to provide second opinions.

Dr Girgis is a postgraduate Fellow in Complex and Advanced Laparoscopic Gynaecological Surgery with the Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy and Surgery (AGES) Society. She has extensive experience in Minimally Invasive Gynaecology, having previously held the role of Urogynaecology and Laparoscopic Fellow at St Vincent’s Hospital, and as Gynaecology Fellow at the Sydney West Advanced Pelvic Surgery (SWAPS) unit.
She graduated with First Class Honours from the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, receiving the Dean’s Roll of Excellence and the Vice-Chancellor Leadership Award. She has continued devotion to self-education, having completed a Master of Surgery in Advanced Gynaecological Surgery at UWS, and a Master of Women’s Health Medicine at UNSW, earning the Golden Key International Honour Society Award for Academic Excellence. She regularly presents at national and local conferences and has been the author of papers published in peer-reviewed publications.
Dr Girgis loves to teach. She is passionate about education and mentoring the next generation of specialist juniors and medical students. She is a clinical educator and mentor, coordinates laparoscopic training and MIS workshops, prepares trainees for specialist interviews, and serves as a College Examiner.
